Hâm  an old English word meaning ‘homestead’ or more loosely ‘home’ is our local restaurant in Northwest London. We have been here on several occasions because their breakfast / brunch, is darn good but never tried any other menu’s. I particularly like their Ham breakfast which is – sourdough bread, fried eggs, streaky bacon, avocado, tomato, and mushroom (you can swap items if you like or have extras). The Ceylon and whole rose tea also a fave, and yes, it’s a whole rose in your tea people!

Because we liked and like the brunch so much, we decided to try out the dinner menu and it was such a pleasant surprise. We rocked up on the last day in March 2018, a random evening and even though they were fully booked, we got a seat at the bar. We initially thought we would just do drinks since the restaurant was fully booked, but the food gods ever present, made a way and we got a table.

We sampled their a la carte menu, created our own mini taster menu and I loved it. The meal started with crab, avocado and cucumber, an appetiser that really whet your appetite and tasted fantastic with the off dry Riesling which we had ordered for the meal.

Then came the Quail. I think this was my first time having Quail in this form, I assumed that it would be like you know, Quail eggs or something. However, it was Quail roast, (think rotisserie) served with beans, shallots and yummy sauce. The shallots did not stop me from enjoying this dish ha!  When I read sirloin beef on the menu, again, I was not totally ready for the perfectly cut and cooked 90-day sirloin beef served with salted tulips and soy. Simple and so delicious!

Pudding was a delicious nutty rhubarb delight and the cheese selection had blue cheese (my fave), chutney and crackers.

Delightful! Looking forward to trying out a proper taster menu!

Cheers
